The first of its kind in the SIM Psychology Society, Camp Novus was organized with the hope of bringing its members from various departments together. A full day of fun-filled games, backed by an inter-house competitive spirit, provided the foundation of bringing the members closer. Amid team-building and fun activities, an overarching mystery lent a theme to the camp.
Taking place at Changi beach, the camp saw its opening with a skit performed by the housemasters and organizers, followed by ice breakers and light inter-house competitions. Through the various activities, the members, both new and old, were brought together. One might even say that the camp served as an induction for the new members. On this day, the lines between the three departments were blurred, and new members met others from outside their departments. It was a day when one could relieve the stress of university and simply enjoy with their peers.
The light story complimented the camp well, giving a purpose for the games. Solving the mystery served to motivate the members even more as they attempt to win the games. Prior to the final showdown, all the houses were given stacks of newspapers and members were tasked to unleash their creativity and dress up their housemasters in metaphorical armour. The succeeding free-for-all, two rounds of intense water fights, were some of the best ways to end a camp.
The camp broke with a prize distribution and numerous photo sessions, documenting a hopeful first in a series of events. At the end of the day, the members, who were satisfied, exhausted and happy, left the camp with new experiences and new memories. Needless to say, the camp fulfilled its purpose of bringing the members of PSYSOC closer amazingly. Pleasant memories were made on this day of Camp Novus, and I can’t wait for more to come.
